The music of Sunna Gunnlaugs, as introduced by Artemis Robison
Ever since the internet made it possible, she’s been an avid cultivator of remote collaborations, working with musicians around the world to create albums of lush, downtempo electro-pop. Artemis is currently in the studio with her fifth release, Body of Glass. She is also a nutritionist, herbalist and science geek, and freelances as a wellness coach and consultant in natural health product development. A true Kindred Spirit!
We asked her what she’s currently listening to…
‘Listening to music to while I’m working can be tricky, as I’m so easily drawn into the universe of sound. For me, the best choices create a great atmosphere while helping me stay focused on the task at hand. One recent find that fits the bill perfectly is pianist Sunna Gunnlaugs’ new album, Long Pair Bond. The music evokes feelings similar to ones I remember from an old childhood favorite, Jean Pierre Rampal and Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio.’
‘Sunna’s style is quite different – much less busy, more spacious (and of course, no flute!) – but what strikes a familiar chord is the playfully romantic, warm, contemplative mood, which I find both uplifting and relaxing and perfect for workaday days. Like many serendipitously finds, I stumbled upon Sunna’s music via Twitter. She’s a lovely and talented independent artist, also with a passion for healthy living and eating – we’ve had our own ‘bond’ over Vitamix blenders and other wonderful kitchen gadgets. I hope you enjoy her sound as much as I do.’
